Barga is a little gem 35 km north of Lucca in the Garfagnana Valley.
A town with limited accommodation but an incredibly rich cultural life. There are opera and jazz festivals in the summer. Barga has a market day every Saturday morning all year round. There is also an additional all-day market on the 2nd Sunday of every month.
The Garfagnana Valley is justly famous for its prosciutto, pork, pecorino cheese and honey. Within the city walls, there are many excellent and cozy restaurants where you can sample local specialties in a true Tuscan atmosphere.
